Kanji Activity

F16_TripPics_AP2_1071

More than 2,000 kanji characters make up the Japanese language, and each character has a meaning as well as a sound. Kanji are used for writing nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs. Their beautiful designs are seen throughout Japan, on buildings, signs, in newspapers… everywhere you look! We were mesmerized by not only the beauty of the written kanji, but how each kanji character, when written out, can look like the thing it describes. We’ve put together 6 kanji characters for you to try at home with your little citizens. Download our acitivty sheet and make sure to share you kanji with us!

Behind the Design: Fish Tales

Fish Market in Italy

Being a peninsula, Italy is surrounded by beautiful turquoise seas. Fish and marine life play a major part in Italian culture – from the art to the cuisine. While traveling up the coast, we stopped at a fish market and marveled at how many different types of fish were for sale. We even had a chance to chat with a real fisher-woman! We’re sharing a behind-the-scenes look at some of our favorite graphic tees inspired by Italian sea life.

Where will the long days and warm weather of summer take you and your little citizens? To the beach? The mountains? Or maybe even a new city? Some of our favorite summer adventures have been road trips with many stops along the way, lazy days near a lake or barbecues with friends and family in the backyard.

Let’s Have An Adventure!

Summer Adventures

Dreaming of sunny beach days and backyard barbecues? Summer will be here before we know it. The reality? The kids will be out of school and after just a few blissful days… they’re going to be “so bored”. We’re sure you have the basics lined up – camps, babysitters, play dates, maybe even a week-long vacation if you’re lucky, but we’re here to help you think outside the box. We want to help you make the foreign familiar in your own home. Across the globe, we travel to bring inspiration back home to you. Across the street, we’re showing you ways to have fun summer adventures inspired by our travels through Italy!

DIY Activity: Venetian Masks

Venetian Masks

Venice is an otherworldly place. From the gilded gondolas and palaces that fill the Grand Canal to the architectural details of the buildings and footbridges connecting the city to its floating neighborhood islands. Venice thrives on mystery and awe. As you wander through the streets, it’s hard to miss the Venetian masks. These famous masks are a part the Carnival of Venice, an annual festival held in Venice typically held in February that marks the beginning of Lent. Similar events are held around the world, like Mardi Gras and Carnaval in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
