for little citizens of the world
When we started Tea, we knew that the guiding vision “for little citizens of the world” was important, but we had to do something tangible and immediate. We searched for an organization that shared our values of making the foreign familiar by celebrating the beauty found in cultures around the world.
We searched and searched and searched. When we landed on the website for The Global Fund for Children, we knew it was right. Leigh wrote an email introducing Tea and our desire to create a product line that would enable our customers and our employees to make a tangible contribution for today’s little citizens of the world. Then she hit send … and waited.
But she didn’t have to wait long.
“We love Tea. We would love to talk about a partnership.” Maya Ajmera, the founder of The Global Fund for Children, wrote back within a few hours. We were incredibly moved that our tiny little company had caught the eye of such a visionary venture philanthropist.
Immediately, we were fast friends. We were inspired and moved by Maya’s work. The Global Fund for Children has two strategies: they provide grants to community-based organizations that promote the dignity of children around the world and they have a media venture that brings books, films, and photography to Western children to introduce and honor the multicultural world we all live in. The Global Fund for Children has made grants to hundreds of organizations that reach children in developing countries: from literacy programs in Burkina Faso to a girls school in an improvished community in Secunderabad, India. The media arm publishes a series of books including “Children from Australia to Zimbabwe”—exposing Western children to the world through the eyes of other children.
Every employee at Tea is touched by the work of The Global Fund for Children. Our product development team is honored to design our “Thank you” assortment—and our sales team is honored to partner with retailers to offer the assortment. Tea donates 40-50% of all sales from the assortment to The Global Fund for Children. In its first year, Tea was able to contribute more than $30,000 to The Global Fund for Children—and this is only the beginning.
