Tea’s Stylista Winner!

We are thrilled to announce our Stylista Winner for Spring/Summer 2011. Congratulations to…

We loved Anjelica’s layering of items and her innate ability to play with color! In regards to her own sense of style, Anjelica says:

“I would describe my style as “Funky”.  I like to add little extensions of color or feathers to my hair.  I love to add elements of earthiness into my style to even it out (something my mother taught me).  My favorite accessories are beanies #1.  Earrings definitely dress up a look,  and I love tons of bracelets.  Finger cut gloves from time to time is also something I will do.  As far as icons or influences,  I will go with Angela and Vannessa Simmons of Pastry shoes and I also notice I pull things from Willow Smith.”

Anjelica will be coming to San Francisco later this summer for a photoshoot and a behind-the-scenes visit to Tea’s headquarters. We can’t wait to meet her!

Anjelica is rocking Tea’s Marisol Hoodie, El Palau Tile Shift Dress, and the Stripe Skinny Capri Leggings in Gumdrop.

Thank you again to all our contestants and retailers. Don’t forget to check out our Stylista finalists here.  And stay tuned for the Stylista Fall 2011 contest, details coming soon!

Tea’s Stylista Finalists

Announcing Stylista Finalists! What is a Stylista, you may ask? Check back to our post a couple months ago, describing Tea’s search for a young fashion-forward 8-12 year old to show their unique sense of style using pieces from our line.  Reaching out through our stores, we asked for fashionable kids to visit their local retailer and style their own outfits using at least two pieces of Tea clothing. The winner would receive an expense-paid trip to San Francisco and a behind the scenes look at Tea’s headquarters, along with their very own photo shoot.

So how did it go? The answer is – it exceeded our expectations! We were so inspired by all the different ways to style Tea. Over 100 stylish kids participated, both girls and boys. Tea retailers went all out, many hiring professional photographers, and one even brought in a teen stylist to help organize the day’s events.  The results were astonishing, and submissions were judged by a team from Tea’s Creative Group on the kids’ creativity, visual flair and embodiment of the spirit of the Tea brand. It was incredibly difficult to choose, but we’ve narrowed it down to three finalists:

Lilieauna

From Euguene, OR, 8-year old Lilieauna likes to be called Lavender, and says she likes Tea because she can “really express myself in these clothes.” (store: Bambini Eugene, photographer: Tiffany Rosenbrock)

Chloe

Also from Eugene, OR, 8-year old Chloe says she likes Tea because “It’s very comfortable and cute.” (store: Bambini Eugene, photographer: Tiffany Rosenbrock)

Anjelica

This 9-year old from San Diego states “I like Tea because of its funky artist style and I’m a funky person.” (store: Magical Child, photographer: Corey Villicana)

Thank you to everyone who has participated so far in our first Stylista contest! And thank you to all the stores who participated – we couldn’t have done it without you. Check back on Tuesday May 17th for the announcement of our winner, and stay posted for our next Stylista contest to be launched later this summer.

Studio T is looking for Foreign Correspondents

Above, Tea explores Korea, Mexico, and Spain

At Tea we are all about bringing the world home. Each season we visit a different global destination, and share our inspiration and the stories of our travels. We are appreciative of the beauty we find and the countries we explore. We’re cultural adventurists, apparel designers and global travelers. We believe in the journey. In discovery. In caring and connection. In diving in. In experiencing life with every bit of our souls. We go there. Across the globe. And across the street.

And now we want to hear about YOUR adventures. We’re on the hunt for three Foreign Correspondents to share their experiences with us on our blog Studio T, between now and the end of the year.

If you and your children are traveling internationally in the near future, write to us! Email blog@teacollection.com and describe the trip you’re planning on taking. Tell us:

- Where you are going, and for how long

- What the purpose of your trip is – is it to experience a specific culture, reconnect with family roots, or do community service?

- How you plan on maximizing your travel experience with your children along the way

Before you leave we’ll give you a $500 Gift Certificate to fill your suitcase with travel clothes from Tea.

Once you return, share your stories and photographs of the people you’ve met, the food you ate, the fashion you saw, and the landscapes you explored. Bring the world to us. Write five blog posts on or shortly after your trip with accompanying photos or short videos detailing your adventures. We’ll devote a week of our blog to showcasing the story of your travels.

We will review all submissions. Please recognize that we may get numerous submissions, which makes it difficult for us to respond to everyone individually. We can respond only to the submissions that we’re considering featuring. Thank you for sharing. Happy writing. And happy traveling!

Tea’s Stylista Project

A couple of months ago we heard a story about one of our former models, a girl named Francesca.  Francesca, we were told, has an avid interest in fashion–watching shows like Project Runway and What Not to Wear, devouring fashion magazines and constantly playing games of dress-up with her friends.

The stories of this little fashionista inspired us at Tea, and we decided to invite her to our studios for a photoshoot. How would a 9 year old style and fashion our line of clothes? We set up racks of our clothing, laid out accessories from previous photo shoots, and gave her free rein to design, style, and model her own outfits.

The result was a fun and energetic photoshoot, which gave us a whole new perspective on how Tea could be styled. Above: Francesca models our Fall 2010 Cord Cargo Pants, a Spring 2011 top (stay posted! coming out soon), Sanuk flip flops, and her grandfather’s cap. Below: She wears this season’s Painters Plaid Tunic, Fall 2010′s Stretch Slim Cord Pant, and Sidewalk Surfer Shoes.

The whole experience was so much fun, that we thought we’d  bring the challenge to you!

Congrats to Adopt a Grey Wolf Winner Audrey

Congratulations to our Facebook Adopt a Grey Wolf randomly chosen winner, Audra Saleh! Her 4 year old Lily loves Crocodiles! She runs around snapping her arms wide! Audra and Lily will soon be the proud foster parents of their very own grey wolf.

We received 98 entries and they were all wild and wooly fun! Here are just a few:

Sarah Teo What an honor this would be! My 4, almost 5 yr old son has always loved the crafty fox.

Loretta Duncan My 4 year old daughter loves all animals but particularly snakes (boa constrictors) and spiders (tarantulas)! Not like her mummy!!!! We went to Costa Rica and Puerto Rico so she is obsessed with the rainforest.

Maria Colon-Mingo Roar!!! Definitely the lion but my two year old son does have a soft spot for turtles…

Nancy Austin Patterson My 6-year old loves elephants, and my 2-year old loves bears… or at least he likes to growl like a bear and then shout “Bear! Bear!”

Teresa Ross I just asked my son Julian and he said “snake.” I think the answer would be different every day ;-)

Erin Fitzgerald Ellie loves stingrays. She is especially partial to the Southern and Blue Spotted varieties :-)

Amy Phillips This is perfect, because my daughter’s favorite animal is a grey wolf! We have a book called “Grey Wolf Pup” that she reads every night, and a cuddly wolf toy to snuggle with. I think we will be adopting a wolf even if we don’t win! Thanks for sharing!

You can see all the entries on our Facebook page.

The Wolves of Transylvania

1361788-Blooming_Wildflowers_of_the_Carpathians-Carpathian_Mountains

The Carpathian mountains of Romania are home to a very large population of gray wolves. Commonly called Transylvania, this region contains the largest popluation of wild carnivorous animals in Western Europe. Recent counts have estimated that approximately 3,500 grey wolves live in this beautiful mountainous region, which makes up about 40% of the wolf population in Europe.

Grey wolves are the second largest carnivore in Europe, and can reach up to almost 5 feet in length and 175 pounds in weight. They live in hierarchical packs, and hunt mostly deer, boar, and smaller wild animals. Despite the negative stereotypes around their species and their widespread presence in  Romania, they seldom come into contact with humans, preferring to keep to themselves in the deepest regions of the Carpathian mountains.

Grey wolves are not currently at risk for extinction, but their environments are still being threatened. With human populations expanding, the large natural territories they need for hunting and breeding are becoming smaller. Negative perception of their species by humans lead to a vast extermination of them throughout central and Northern Europe during the 19th century.

In acknowledgment of this beautiful region and the wildlife that inhabits it, we designed our Mt. Tampa Wolf Graphic Tee this season:

T722020_CORNFLOWER

In support of efforts to help save this remarkable animal, Tea will adopt a Grey Wolf through World Wildlife Fund‘s Adopt an Animal program for one lucky winner. To enter the contest visit our facebook page, and comment on our post about Grey Wolves. Share with us your child’s favorite wild animal by the end of the day and the randomly selected winner will be announced tomorrow! To read more about WWF’s program, click here.

Favorite Childhood Travel Stories from our Facebook Fans

Happy Wednesday!

Every week as part of Tote Tuesday, we ask a different question on Facebook. You can win our Little Citizens tote.

Just wanted to share some of our Fans’ Childhood travel stories and one of my own.

From Sarah (this week’s winner): Driving to Canada to see Niagra Falls and getting watermelon flavored French gum stuck in my hair when we were laying down in the back of our station wagon!

From Priscilla: My parents used to take my sister and I to Tijuana every summer. We stayed at the same hotel every year, ate at our favorite restaurants and visited neighborhing cities like Ensenada, Rosarito and Tecate. We looked forward to our summers.

From Winnie: My family didn’t go on vacations when we were young. Our first family vacation was when I was 18 years old, a trip back to China, Macau and Hong Kong to visit family. My grandmother passed away and the family was there to take care of service arrangements. Needless to say, we didn’t get to do too many things fun. But it was great to meet all the aunts, uncles and cousins I’ve never met before. It was fun getting to know them.

From Julie: When I was 11 and my brother was 8, my parents took us to Europe. In s stop in Germany a man introduced himself to us and bought us pastries in the Kondotetei. Turns out he was the Burgermeister. This thrilled us because we knew this term from the Christmas special with the Burgermeister Meisterbuger!

From Luciana: I used to live in Brazil… so on summer vacation, we would drive from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte and stop on little farms for snacks and rest along the way…. I remember playing in this little farm/restaurant’s playground and near the cows…. I remember the food was great and fresh milk… great memories.

From Kaarin: Almost 15 years ago, my Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother took me on a tour of the world and we stopped by South Afrika for two months. While we were on safari one day a young Lioness jumped on our jeep and stared us down for what seemed like hours (probably no more than a minute!) , and my Great Grandmother finally stood up and told her to shoo away with her cane . . . I’ll never forget it ;) 4 generations of women traveling around the world!

From LisaC (that’s me): I remember going to Miami Beach for the first time from Connecticut to visit my aunt, cousins and Grandpa Abe. My brother kept saying its not Miami it’s your ami. We got to swim in more than one pool and the ocean, hang out with our older cousins and go for brunch at The Fountainebleau Hotel. Pretty cool all around.

Discover more memories on our Facebook page. What are some of your favorite childhood travel stories?
