Design Philosophy
Going there, seeking beauty, inspiration and connection. Bringing the world home through our experiences and designs.
Bringing the world home
We're about going into and being in the world, in a way that is personal and cross-cultural.
Every season, our design team travels to a different international destination to discover inspiration for that season's collection. While on these exploration trips, we immerse ourselves in the culture to learn about local textiles, colors, architecture, aesthetics, and design practices. We explore, we discover, we sketch, we take tons of pictures (video too). We come home - enlivened by the experience, ideas flowing, and ready to jump into the journey of creation.
Fabrics and Textiles - Naturally
Fabrics and textiles are the foundation. As she cultivated her sewing and design hobby growing up, our Co-founder, Emily Meyer, learned to appreciate the quality fabrics that withstand regular wear and tear, as well as the sensitivity of which textures are truly luxurious and easy to care for. Tea is created around that foundation of 'practical luxury.'
We love using natural fiber fabrics like the softest pima cotton and luxurious merino wool. And we make sure all of our fabrics come together in an easy care fashion to fit a family's active lifestyle.
Color and Pattern - Mix it up
We love saturated colors mixed with neutrals...mixing prints with textures and patterns, like stripes with plaids or print...and mixing silhouettes and shapes that are stylish and easy.
There's something about the way we enthusiastically mix color, print, pattern and texture that is unmistakably Tea. We encourage you and your kids to play along. A fun and easy way to start is with Outfits or Wardrobe Sets
Make it Modern
Our style is constantly evoking the distinctive beauty of a global source, while always coming to life as an inspired, original interpretation. Our clothes are definitely for today's kids. They're also for today's women. We take each season's cultural inspiration and fuse it with trend-aware design and the Tea way of putting outfits together. When children and women wear our clothes as an expression of confidence and individuality, it connects all of us to a vibrant community of local and global citizens. That's bringing the world home. And we love it!
